Wave Progression

This document reflects the runtime threat-budget wave planner that replaced the older stage-slot composition logic.

Inputs

• Wave number
• Party leader level (examples below use the baseline starting level of 8)
• Retry state: retries reroll the same wave between 80% and 120% of the base threat budget

Runtime rules

• Base threat budget grows with wave number and is multiplied upward slightly by higher leader levels.
• Early waves intentionally spend only part of the budget so starter parties see weaker packs instead of one budget-capped monster.
• Planned monster count grows into multi-creature packs, while higher leader levels only nudge late waves toward denser picks instead of collapsing them into solo elites.
• Runtime generated count can land below the planned count when the remaining threat budget can no longer support another on-floor slot.
• Concurrent enemy cap grows more slowly than total planned count, so spare monsters stay buffered in pendingSpawns until the battlefield has room.
• Late waves keep lifting the minimum acceptable threat for individual picks, so weak monsters become rare support instead of the main body.
