Early game

Prioritize stable clears over greedy push attempts. The first mercenary unlock is one of the biggest power spikes, so keep enough gold on hand to convert level milestones into an actual party upgrade.

When you get stuck

Lock a wave your team can clear without burning all potion charges, then iterate: upgrade core gear, cap your best autocasts, and if you are premium remember the 6th leader slot comes online at level 25 before you push again.

Event management

Protect Rashid when he appears because his escort waves run at ++25% threat. Grizzly Adams is the level 18 breakpoint for unlocking the Bestiary window, and Jefrey is worth even more once your bank is funded because each successful rescue pays 1% bank interest on top of any rescue reward.
